Creative Duo: Meet Joe and Vickie
Joie Elie Photography—named after our daughters, Joie and Elie—was born from love, resilience, and a shared belief that the most beautiful stories are the ones told from the heart.
We are Joe and Vickie Kuan, a husband and wife team who first crossed paths at Syracuse University. Joe, armed with a Master of Fine Arts in Media Studies, won Vickie over with his roller-skating skills and quick humor. Vickie, who later earned her Master of Science in Telecommunication from Syracuse, was immediately drawn to his creative spark. What started as a campus friendship quickly grew into a lifelong partnership in love and in art.
After surviving 9/11, we felt called to create something meaningful: a way to help others preserve love, life, and connection through imagery that endures. In 2002, we launched our design company, VIG Designers LLC, and by 2010, our passion evolved into Joie Elie Photography—a family-owned studio dedicated to crafting timeless, heartfelt visuals for couples in love.
Our philosophy is simple: love is art, and art should feel like love. We approach every wedding as if it were our daughters’—with love, care, and devotion to every detail. We capture the laughter, the tears, the in-between moments that make your day uniquely yours. Whether it’s a quiet glance during the vows or a wild dance-floor twirl, we believe these moments deserve to be remembered just as they were felt—real, joyful, and beautifully human.
When we’re not filming weddings, Joe can often be found in the kitchen trying new recipes, playing cello or flute, or diving into a good history documentary. Vickie finds joy in table tennis, playing piano hymns, supporting local orchestras and writing blogs that celebrate the magic of everyday love.
